Another Cobol Story

Cobol, a programming language, that is the other name for Common Business Oriented Language.

COBOL was designed in 1959 by CODASYL and was partly based on the programming language FLOW-MATIC designed by Grace Hopper. It was created as part of a US Department of Defense effort to create a portable programming language for data processing.

This is a story of chance, an opportunity that many years ago, like when my father happened to study in the 10th grade. While on his break, after school; he had to visit his relative's place. There, he enrolled for a training program to learn COBOL; and there was no one to persuade him to grab this.
This experience simply opened his mind to better learning and the teacher requested him to join back after his degree. As that way, he could grasp and benefit a little more.
In particular to remember, this was a time before 1970's, when programming and latest advancements in IT, technology wasn't so much in the limelight.
My father, never went back to programming; but thinking back it brings a feeling of delight that sometimes learning opportunities simply happen.
